FEW Barrel Gin

For nearly a century Evanston, Illinois, the home of the Temperance Movement, was a dry city. In dire need of liquor laws that weren’t penned the same years as the invention of the band-aid, FEW’s master distiller Paul Hletko overturned century-old prohibition laws to become Evanston’s first distiller of grain spirits within the city limits. In a world chock-full of mass-produced spirits, only few remain truly handcrafted, and small-batched. FEW Spirits are a new take on timeless distilling techniques, and transcend the oft-ordinary taste we’ve all grown accustomed to. Distilled from the very best grains, aged to perfection, and bottle under their own roof, FEW remains in their own hands until distribution. FEW Rye was even names craft whiskey of the year in 2013 by Whiskey Advocate – no small accomplishment.

Few Barrel Aged gin is a departure from their genever styled, malt-whiskey based gin.Instead, it is a more of a traditional gin distilled from a more neutral grain and then aged for four months in oak barrels, giving it a color and oakiness more commonly associated with whiskey. It is very much a combination of gin and whiskey. They suggest drinking in an Old Fashioned cocktail or Negroni.

NOSE: A rich woody character permeates the base. You can pick up the earthiness of the base here.

PALATE: There’s a certain spicy sweetness evident here and a faint note of brown sugar

FINISH: You get a bright citrus, rich notes of orange and lemon, and most notably, a bit more juniper than you get on the mainline Few Gin
